  1. The BBC is reporting that Liz Truss is no longer promising to increase state pensions in line with surging inflation.

Just two weeks ago Truss said she was “committed” to the triple lock. A commitment that pension payments rise by whatever is higher: prices, average earnings or 2.5%.

Her spokesman has now said she was “not making any commitments” on government spending.

Both the Conservatives and Labour promised to maintain the triple lock in their 2019 general election manifestos. So that would be another Tory Broken Promise.

  2. Tory MPs are told to vote No to the Labour motion to ban fracking or face serious consequences.

Do the Tories now have to bully their own members into doing what the most recent PM wants despite a manifesto pledge to do the exact opposite?

NEW: Message to Tory MPs from deputy chief whip Craig Whittaker declares that this afternoon’s vote on fracking (Labour want to ban it for good) is “a confidence motion in the Government”.Lots of Tory MPs are opposed to fracking in their areas. One MP says: “Big test.” pic.twitter.com/fZLpN8rBNe— Kevin Schofield (@KevinASchofield) October 19, 2022
